All-Around Talent Shines at Denver Rodeo

DENVER, Colo. --- Trevor Brazile, from Decatur, Texas, knows what it takes to be number one.

The talented cowboy has won three all-around titles competing in tie-down roping, team roping and steer roping. He competed in tie-down and team roping at the Denver Coliseum on Sunday as part of the National Western Stock Show Rodeo.

During the matinee performance, Brazile had a time of 9.9 seconds in the tie-down roping, which was just a solid run. He vastly improved that time during the evening session with a 7.8-second run, the fastest run of the rodeo so far.

Brazile is now in the lead in the over-all standings of tie-down roping with a total time of 17.7 seconds. He and new roping partner Rich Skelton from Llano, Texas, were also successful in team roping despite a five-second penalty in the first round.

They stopped the clock in seven seconds, but a one-leg catch by Skelton added five seconds to their time. They came back Sunday night with a

4.8 second run, which is currently in third place in the second round. They are also in fifth place in the over-all standings and Brazile has the opportunity to come back to Denver next Sunday to compete in two events and put a big push on winning his fourth all-around world title.

"There is a lot of rodeo left here and a lot could happen,"

Brazile said. "It would be great to come back in both events and an awesome way to start out the year. Denver's been good to me in the past and I'd like to take home a championship from their 100th anniversary."

There is one performance of the Professional Rodeo Cowboys Association Rodeo at the National Western Stock Show on Monday at 2 p.m. It will be followed by the Martin Luther King Jr. African American Heritage Rodeo of Champions at 7 p.m.
