Team Roping Brothers Enjoy Success at Denver
Rodeo DENVER --- In rodeo, there are brothers that compete against each other and brothers that compete with each other. Four brothers are enjoying success in team roping at this year’s National Western Stock Show Rodeo. Twins Jake and Jimmie Cooper from Stephenville, Texas, took the lead in the first round of team roping at the Wednesday evening performance. With Jake doing the heading, and Jimmie roping the heels, they stopped the clock in 4.8 seconds. The twins are coming off of their first trip to the Wrangler National Finals Rodeo (NFR) . They are the son of world champion all-around cowboy Jimmie Cooper from Monument, N.M., and have literally grown up with a rope in their hands. They will rope their second steer here Thursday morning. The new over-all leaders in team roping are brothers Riley and Brady Minor from Ellensburg, Wash. The Minors are currently in third place in the Professional Rodeo Cowboys Association Crusher Rentals World Standings. They have a total time here of 10.9 seconds. With three more groups of contestants to compete, they may not remain in first place, however, they are very likely to qualify for Sunday’s finals. Bull riding was a highlight of Wednesday night’s rodeo with NFR qualifier Fred Boettcher from Rice Lake, Wisc., having the high-marked ride of the rodeo. He rode the Cervi and Guidry bull named Hot Diggity Damn for 92 points. Right behind him was Lonnie Carpenter from Haysville, Kan., with an 88. Both of these men will attempt to ride their second bull here Thursday at the morning performance. That performance begins at 10:30 a.m. The evening performance begins at 7 p.m. Story Continues Below
