Beau Franzen Wows Rodeo Crowd at National
Western DENVER, Colo. --- With three performances at in the Denver Coliseum, Saturday’s National Western Stock Show Rodeo definitely had the fans on the edge of their seat. Beau Franzen from Sidney, Mont., had some tough luck in the first round of steer wrestling during the matinee performance. However, he made up for it in the evening performance. Franzen was riding the American Quarter Horse Association (AQHA) steer wrestling horse of the year Jessie, when he had the fastest time of the rodeo here so far. With Jessie’s owner Lee Graves from Calgary, Alberta, doing the hazing, Franzen had a time of 3.1 seconds. This leads the second round of competition. After Franzen made his run, it was Graves’ turn to compete and the two switched horses. Graves was also successful on Jesse stopping the clock in 3.4 seconds. He is now second in the second round. Like Franzen, tough luck in the first round will keep him from qualifying for the finals here. This is the fourth of eleven groups of contestants that will be competing here. With that much rodeo action left, there is a possibility that leads may change. However, with these blazing fast times, both of these men are likely to finish in the top eight in the round and get a pay check. Brittany Pozzi-Pharr gave her great horse Stitch a rest after winning her first world championship in barrel racing. Stitch, who won the AQHA award for barrel racing and his owner made the trip from Victoria, Texas, to compete here. The duo is now leading the over-all standings here with a total time of 31.18 and hoping their time holds them in the top 12 barrel racers to qualify for the finals on Jan. 27. Jodi Rush Cuccurullo from Carrollton, Texas, is now in second over-all with total time of 31.24. First round competition starts here on Sunday at 2 p.m., and the same contestants will have their second round at 7:30 p.m. Story Continues Below
