Wyoming Cowboys Take Steer Wrestling Spotlight
at San Antonio Rodeo SAN ANTONIO --- The state of Wyoming is known for their cowboys, and three of them showed the fans at the San Antonio Stock Show Rodeo just what they are made of on Sunday night. Kyle Callaway, from Gillette had the fastest time in steer wrestling at 3.5 seconds. This puts him in second place in the first round of competition here. That great run was followed up by reigning world champion Jason Miller from Lance Creek and Steven Campbell, from Midwest who had identical times of 3.6 seconds. The leader board in the first round is getting pretty crowded with just two-tenths of a second separating the top six. All of these men will compete in the second round and third rounds here on Monday and Tuesday night. The hottest duo in team roping also took the lead in the first round with a time of 4.8 seconds. Brothers Riley and Brady Minor are at the top of the Professional Rodeo Cowboys Association Crusher World Standings. With Riley roping the horns and Brady heeling, they have won titles in Billings, Mont., Odessa, Texas, and Denver already this year. At the Sunday matinee performance, three tie-down ropers moved to the top of the over-all standings. Currently in first place is Clint Robinson from Spanish Fork, Utah who has a total time of 24.4 seconds on three runs. Behind him is eight-time world champion Fred Whitfield, from Hockley, Texas, with 25.6. Rounding out the trio is Tyson Durfey from Colbert, Wash., who qualified for his first Wrangler National Finals Rodeo in 2007. Durfey has a total time of 26.3 seconds. Two more bull riders have conquered three beasts. Zack Oakes from Elk, Wash., has a total score of 232, currently in fourth place. Pancho Limas, from Weatherford, Okla., is ranked fifth with 222.
