Lowe Looking for Repeat Title at San Antonio SAN ANTONIO --- A highlight of Will Lowe’s 2007 season was winning the bareback riding at the San Antonio Stock Show Rodeo. The three-time world champion won over $20,000 here with a total score of 333 points on four rides. That money was critical for Lowe to qualify for his sixth Wrangler National Finals Rodeo. He entered the competition last December in 10th out of 15 places. “I love San Antonio,” Lowe said. “It’s a great town with an awesome rodeo that I’ve always wanted to win.” Lowe took the lead in the first round of competition with an 85-point marking on Calgary Stampede’s Licorice Baby. He will have his second competition Monday night and his third on Tuesday. “The bareback riding is so competitive, anything can happen,” Lowe said. “It would be great to win this rodeo again, but there is a lot of talent in the field and anything can happen.” Shane Moran from Roundup, Mont., took the lead in saddle bronc riding with a 79-point ride on Big Bend Rodeo’s Dual Motion. Saddle bronc riding has been especially tough here. Moran’s score will probably not hold through the next group of contestants, but it has set him up for the next two rounds and a possibility to qualify for the finals. Rodeo competition continues on Monday at 7 p.m.
