San Antonio Rodeo Gives Rodeo Contestants High
Hopes
SAN ANTONIO --- There are several rodeo contestants in San Antonio that have hopes of qualifying for the finals here and winning a coveted championship buckle. Justin McDaniel finished third in the 2007 Professional Rodeo Cowboys Association Crusher World Standings. He leads the first round of competition here with an 88-point effort. He came back and scored an 84. All he needs on Friday night is a 77 point ride to take the over-all lead. The fast time in team roping here on Thursday night was 5.1 seconds by brothers Matt and John Robertson. John lives in their hometown of Polson, Mont., but Matt has moved to Stephenville, Texas. They are hoping that their time will get a check in the second round, because they had a broken barrier in the first round and incurred a 10-second penalty. The team to watch here is Matt Funk and Bucky Campbell. They have been the most consistent team here so far with two times of 5.1 seconds. Another clean run will see them at the top of the leader board. The new paring of Turtle Powell and Travis Graves has also been successful. They had a 5.9 second run on Wednesday and a 5.4 second run on Thursday. There are three bull riders that have been successful on two rides. Brothers Ted and Thomas Bert from Modesto, Calif., and Shawn Proctor, from Tooele, Utah are all hoping for another score here on Friday night.
