Walk This Way, Volume 2, Chapter 1
I hope that everyone had a great Holiday Season and is having an awesome new year. It looks like I’m going to be on the trail again, so I’ve decided to share my adventures with you for another year. I can’t wait and hope that you will enjoy reading. I now have my own e-mail account, so I’d love to hear from you. Please send any questions to walkthisway@badcompanyrodeo.com. I found out there are some teachers that have been reading my stories to their classes. I was so excited about that. I think if we encourage children to enjoy rodeos and bull riding that our future will be secure. That’s real important to me, because even though I’m eight years old and will probably be on the road for a couple more years, I’ve got some calves coming up that I want to enjoy the same life that I have had. Along with those calves, Bad Company Rodeo has some young bulls that have really been turning the crank. I’m looking forward to traveling with some of these bulls that I believe have the potential to be future superstars. After the Wrangler National Finals Rodeo, I went to the “Cowboy Capital” of the world, Stephenville, Texas, for a while. I got some time off while some of my buddies went to Waco for the Texas Circuit Finals. Crazy Train got ridden there by Weston Blackburn from Robinson. This is twice this year that he has been ridden and each time they have won the round on him. Crazy Train took Weston to an 87 in Waco. That bull is getting a taste of what it feels like to have great rides and I think he is just going to get better. He was strutting around after that and acting like he only bull in the pen. It didn’t take me long to straighten him out. Super Freak and Pretty Vegas were also there, but neither of them got ridden. They all came back to Stephenville and we headed right out to Odessa. After that break and seeing those bulls thinking they were the big deal, I was ready to get back to business. We were all out in Odessa on Thursday night.
The first cowboy that got me is a young guy named Trevor Kastner. He’s a 20-year-old from Ardmore, Okla. I could tell he was really craving a successful trip and I gave him several opportunities to ride me. Then, almost seven seconds into the ride I felt him get off center and gave him that signature move that gets them off my back. I had a day off before Saturday night live action. Shawn Hogg was just coming off winning the Texas Circuit when he got to Odessa. He was confident and excited after getting that title. He tended to business and settled down on my back pretty quick. I decided I should crank it up a notch. Sometimes, I get a little lazy because I think there’s just young kids getting on, or I know I’m one of the best bulls in the pen. That’s why I like going to any championship event. I don’t care if it’s a PBR or PRCA event, when you have the best bulls and best riders, you tend to turn it up. So, I’ve decided that this year, I need to buck like I’m at a championship event every time they open the gate. I kind of slacked off a little the first time I was out in Odessa and I wasn’t very proud of myself. So, when my turn came again I was ready. I’d talked to Super Freak who bucked Shawn off at Rosenberg last October, so I knew what to expect. I came out of the gate, went left , let him get his seat and then I threw some stuff at him and he was gone. I bucked him off in less than 6 seconds and got a 44.5 point marking. I’m pretty sure if he would have ridden me, we would have had the first 90-point ride of the year. I’ve talked in the past about Bad Company Rodeo’s young bulls and how excited I am to travel with them in the future. Well we certainly started off the year right. A Wyoming cowboy, Kanin Asay, won Odessa on Pretty Vegas with an 89-point ride. Logan Knibbe, from Rockdale, Texas, was second with an 88 on Super Freak. Former PRCA world champion Cody Hancock and Chance Smart each got checks on Born To Boogie. I’d say that we all had a pretty good rodeo. When I counted the Bad Company Rodeo bulls in the pen, there were 10 of them in Odessa and over 65% of the $26,576 in prize money was won on four of those bulls. It was so great to be back on the trailer with my buddy Satan’s Own. We hadn’t been anywhere together since Rosenberg last fall and of all the bulls I get to hang out with, he is my favorite. He’s always cool, calm and collected. After Odessa, we went back to the Rodeo Ranch. When I got back there it was hard for me to remember how much green grass we had last year. It’s now dry, dusty, and all I can see are rocks and mesquite trees, and if I walk through enough pastures, maybe a heifer or two. Just kidding. I’ve gotten to see more than a heifer or two and if I thought my main girl Ivana looked good last summer, you should see her now. She’s had plenty of feed and with her hair coat a little longer, she is as cute as ever. I’m kind of glad that I didn’t go back east. It was a great experience, but I’m looking forward to being a little closer to home this year. I’m going to find out what it’s like to be a Dad and I sure do have some things to teach those young bulls. Bad Company Rodeo is going to have a trailer full of them on the road, so I’m sure I’ll have plenty of stories to tell you. Hopefully none of them will get too big for their britches. I’m not afraid to put them in their place, but I sure do like it when we all get along and play like a team! My name is Walk This Way and I am a bull with BADITUDE
