Best rodeo athletes in the world coming
to the Stampede
Calgary – The Calgary Stampede is excited to announce the greatest gathering
of rodeo champions – including 64 current and past champions – will compete
at the Greatest Outdoor Show on Earth this year.
The world’s richest outdoor rodeo has attracted rodeo’s biggest names to
compete for $2 million in prize money over the 10 days of the Calgary
Stampede, July 9 – 18, 2010.
“Some people called last year’s Stampede Rodeo the greatest rodeo
competition ever staged anywhere – and this year, our invite list boasts
even more champions,” says Keith Marrington, Calgary Stampede senior
manager, rodeo. “Looking down the list, it’s a thrill to know we have 25
World Champions, 24 Canadian Champions and 15 Calgary Stampede Champions in
the field for the battle that will conclude with the
unsurpassed Million Dollar Sunday Showdown.”
Since 2006, the Calgary Stampede has been inviting the top 20 athletes in
each of the six major events – bareback, saddle bronc, steer wrestling,
tie-down roping, ladies barrel racing and bull riding – to compete in this
unique tournament-style rodeo. The winners of each event tuck a grand prize
of $100,000 into their jeans on the final Sunday.
“The Calgary Stampede is the one rodeo every summer that can definitely
make your entire year,” says Rod Hay the Wildwood, Alberta saddle bronc
rider who has won the Stampede more than once. “There’s nothing greater than
to climb up on that Grandstand stage, in front of thousands of fans, to
accept the winners cheque.”
