Calgary – It was 10 days of excitement and big money at the Calgary Stampede
Rodeo, and it all came to a head during Showdown Sunday, July 18th, rodeo’s
richest afternoon.
The Greatest Outdoor Show on Earth started with 20 contestants in each
event. They were divided into two pools, the first pool competing from July
9-12 and the second pool competing from July 13-16, with a wildcard round on
Saturday. It’s a new rodeo each of the first nine days as the contestants
compete for $105,000 in prize money - $17,500 in each event.
The tenth day of competition is Showdown Sunday, and with over $1,000,000
to be given away, it is truly rodeo's richest afternoon. This progressive
final sees 10 qualifiers compete once, with the four highest scores or
fastest times advancing to the showdown round. These top-four contestants
let it all hang out for the top prize and the Calgary Stampede Championship.
Below are results after the Showdown round where first place took home
$100,000, second took home $25,000, third took home $15,000 and fourth took
home $10,000. All the competitors that did not advance to the Showdown round
received $3,333.
One of the highlights of the rodeo was watching Will Lowe from Canyon,
Texas, win his third consecutive championship at Calgary. Lowe had an 87.5
point effort aboard Calgary Stampede’s horse Mad Money. Lowe was also the
biggest money earner hear at $117,000 total.
