FORT WORTH, Texas --- FORT WORTH, Texas --- It’s down to the wire, at the Fort Worth Stock Show & Rodeo, and over $200,000 of the $500,000 plus prize money checks have been written. One more performance, Sunday afternoon, will be the deciding factor of which 12 contestants in each event will compete in the championship round. The first of many checks written Saturday evening went to the bareback riding and Kaycee Feild’s name was on the first place check after holding onto the lead in the first go round from the very beginning. He received $2,742 for his 85-point ride on Andrews Rodeo’s horse named Vodka. Currently Feild has 249 points on three horses and splits the lead in the average, giving him a spot in the final round. The team roping saw a tie for the top prize money check as the team of Texas cowboys Mikey Fletcher and Tommy Zuniga tied with Garrett Tonozzi of Colorado and fellow Texan Kinney Harrell. Each team roped their steer in 4.7 seconds. That earned each roper $2,117. Neither team fared well on their second steer, so this will be all they will leave the Fort Worth Stock Show & Rodeo with. Saddle bronc riding’s first go round went static over 10 performances ago and Rusty Allen retained the number one spot with an 87-point ride on Andrews Rodeo’s horse Sun Dog. The Utah cowboy collected a check for $4,327 and is sitting second in the average with 168 points on two horses. Allen is just one point behind the leader current leader Shaun Stroh of Dickinson, N.D. Both Allen and Stroh look to be at the top of the pack for the final round Sunday evening. In the bull riding, Brandon Sartin of Zachary, La., won the first round with an 87-point ride on Rafter G’s bull Get Smart, and left the pay window with $4,701 in his wallet. Sartin did not have the same luck on his second bull and received a no score. But, his 87 is currently sitting in the 9th spot as only eight bull riders have qualified on two bulls. The final round will bring back the top 12 scores overall, which means there may be riders qualify for the finals with just one bull ride. The steer wrestling didn’t pay off in prize money checks tonight, but it did pay off in final round placement. Billy Bugenig of Ferndale, Calif., and Wade Sumpter from Fowler, Colo., took over the top over-all spot knocking Olin Hannum down to third in the average. Both Bugenig and Sumpter split first place in the average with eight seconds on two runs. Sumpter, sat out the first half of the 2009 season due to injury, but is back in the saddle and grabbing cash at every rodeo he has entered for the 2010 season Sunday has one more regular performance at 2 p.m. and then the final championship round at 7:30 p.m Story Continues Below
