KAYCEE FEILD SETS GOAL, NOT TO REPEAT 2009 FWSSR
Lauranne Smith

FORT WORTH --- Last year bareback rider Kaycee Feild of Payson, Utah, came into the Fort Worth Stock Show Rodeo on fire. The two time Wrangler National Finals Rodeo qualifier and 2008 CNFR champion led all three rounds of the bareback riding for the majority of the 30 performances. As luck would have it, Feild’s fire was snuffed out in the final round and he was left out of the money.

With last year’s final round in mind, Feild has set a new goal coming into the 114th Original Indoor Rodeo. It’s simple, finish strong in the rounds and stronger in the final round.

“Last year I pretty much stubbed my toe and messed up in the final round.” Feild said. “This year I set my goals and came to finish strong and win,” he added.

Feild competed on his third horse Monday night scoring 83 points on Rafter G’s horse Tom Dooley taking over the lead in the third round and the average. He also leads the first round and has a strong seat in the second.

“I bucked off in Denver last week, went and watched some tapes and re-focused to come back here.” Feild said. “I’ve felt good and strong on all three of my horses here and will be ready for the final round,” he added.

It took six performances of the bull riding to see a qualified ride in both rounds of competition. It was Wesley Silcox of Santaquin, Utah, and Trent Cormier of Houma, La., that proved it could be done. Silcox and Cormier are the only two bull riders to successfully compete on both of their bulls and hence take the lead in the average.

The team roping also saw a change as team roping partners Trevor Brazile of Decatur, Texas, and Patrick Smith of Lipan, Texas, took over the lead in the average by one tenth of a second with a total of 10.3 seconds on two runs. This bumped the team of Ariz., cowboys Derrick Begay and Cesar de la Cruz to second with 10.4 seconds.

Tuesday, Jan., 26, the Fort Worth Stock Show Rodeo presented by the Southwestern Exposition and Livestock Show, goes pink for the seventh performance, at 7:30 p.m. Plus, in partnership with Susan G. Komen for the Cure, 50% of all general admission and rodeo ticket sales from the day's events will be donated to this worthy cause.
