MARCH 19, 2010 — HOUSTON — FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE — It was all or nothing as 12 contestants in each event competed in the Wild Card round for their last chance at the $50,000 payout. Trevor Brazile advanced to the RodeoHouston BP Super Series Championship in Tie-Down Roping with a 7.7 second time winning $2,000 this round and $4,000 total. Trevor has competed at RodeoHouston since 1997. “There’s no comparison to the final day here,” Brazile said. “If $50,000 for one head of livestock won’t motivate you, I don’t know what will.” Brazile advances to the Championship in Tie-Down Roping with Clint Robinson. Clint Cannon makes it to the Championship in Bareback Bronc Riding with a score of 84 winning $2,000 and total of $4,500. Cannon, a Houston area native, has competed at RodeoHouston since 2003. “Tomorrow, I’m going to come in with the mentality of having fun,” Cannon said. “I have the privilege of doing what I love and living out my dreams.” Cannon advances to the Championship in Bareback Bronc Riding with Royce Ford. B.J. Campbell and Mike Beers advances to the Championship in Team Roping with a time of 4.7 winning $4,000 and $8,000 total. Beers has competed at RodeoHouston every year for the past 30 years. “Houston is the greatest rodeo of all time,” Beers said. “If you win here you can pretty much go ahead and book your hotel room in Vegas for the National Finals Rodeo.” Campbell and Beers advance to the Championship in Team Roping with Justin Yost and Kyle Crick. Cort Scheer makes it to the Championship in Saddle Bronc Riding with an 83.5 to win $2,000, totaling $4,000. This is Scheer’s second year to compete at RodeoHouston. “I’ve always heard that your most important ride is the next one,” Scheer said. “So I plan to make the most of my ride tomorrow.” Scheer advances to the Championship in Saddle Bronc Riding with Wade Sundell. Josh Peek advances to the Championship in Steer Wrestling with a 3.6 second run to win $2,000 and $5,000 overall. Peek was the 2008 RodeoHouston Tie-Down Roping Champion. “It’s pretty hard to get faster than 4.0 seconds in Houston, because the competition is so tough,” Peek said. “I’m excited to have a second chance tomorrow.” Peek moves to the Championship in Steer Wrestling with Justin Davis. Bobby Welsh makes the Championship in Bull Riding with a score of 85, winning $1,500 this round and $6,250 total. This is Welsh’s sixth year to compete at RodeoHouston. “To get this far with the size and caliber of Houston’s rodeo is really something,” Welsh said. “Everyone I’m competing against knows what they’re doing, so to get in the top 10 is glorious.” Welsh advances to the Championship in Bull Riding with Luke Haught. Brittany Pozzi advances to the Championship in Barrel Racing with a time of 14.65 to win $2,000 and a total of $11,500. Pozzi has competed at RodeoHouston since 2004. “It feels so good to get a second chance,” Pozzi said. “If I win that $50,000, I’ll be a very happy person.” Pozzi makes it to the Championship in Barrel Racing with Rachael Myllymaki.
