Haught,
Hogg clean up in Houston’s Reliant Stadium
Haught won the Xtreme Bulls title on March 21 by riding two bulls for 182.5 points, winning $22,771, a day after Hogg won the Shootout Round of RodeoHouston. “I was happy about yesterday,” Haught said. “I didn’t win the $50,000, but my traveling partner did. Last night, he told me that today was going to be my day, and I’m pretty happy that it was.” Hogg earned $56,250 at RodeoHouston and added another $13,982 after winning the semifinal round of the Xtreme Bulls event with a 92-point ride on Burch Rodeo’s Jingle Bob. Haught was nipping at his heels with an 89.5 mark on Classic Pro Rodeo’s Benny. With the $6,000 he banked in RodeoHouston added to his winnings in the Xtreme Bulls, Haught left Houston with $28,771. In sum, the truck won $99,003. “It’s a huge confidence-builder, and not worrying about money is a huge part of it,” Haught said. “It makes you ride more relaxed. “I got on Benny last week in Marshall, Texas, and he bucked me off. I got the feel of him, and I figured him out. I knew how to ride him, and I did. The last time I got on him, I got around the corner, and then he caught a gear and bucked me off. This time, I really dove off around that corner, and when he caught that gear, he just picked me up and it was just smooth sailing after that.” Frontier Rodeo bulls carried cowboys to third- and fourth-place semifinal finishes. Beau Schroeder scored 89 points on Black Powder, and Seth Glause was 87 on Gringo Honeymoon. In the final round, the second bull rider out, Tyler Willis – who scored a 71 in the long round – reeled off a 90.5 on Twisted Fate. Then eight bull riders in a row were bucked off. Once it was Haught’s turn, he climbed on Cervi and Guidry’s Amy’s Pet. “It surprised me how hard he kicked out of there,” Haught said. “When he first came around, he about jerked the rope out of my hands, pulled it to my fingertips and I was just hanging on with everything I had. It kind of took my focus off of riding, and I was just hanging on.” He estimates that he rode
Amy’s Pet for about five seconds with his fingertips.
