Beau Brooks Wins at Irricana Humps & Horns Bullnanza

AIRDRIE, AB Nanton, Alta. bull rider Beau Brooks won the final round and the aggregate at the one-day Irricana Humps & Horns Bullnanza on Aug. 7. Brooks rode Franklin Rodeo’s five-year-old In The Zone for 85.5 points in the first go-round at Founders Park in Irricana, Alta. The ride, worth $1,307, was second place to rookie Ty Patten’s 87-point go at Outlawbuckers’ Who’s There, but Brooks secured the event win on the back of Outlawbuckers’ Bombproof in the short go. Brooks scored an 86 for an additional $400. His scores combined to 172 to win the aggregate for an additional $3,557 to his 2010 season earnings.

Brooks didn’t have as much to show for his trip to Grimshaw, Alta. for the North Peace Stampede, which ran Aug. 7 and 8 at the Lac Cardinal Rodeo Grounds. There it was Daniel Hansen of Cereal, Alta. who won the bull riding, with an 84.5 ride aboard Kesler Rodeo’s Whirl Wide. The 1,600 lb black bull helped the athlete earn $1,371.

But bull riding wasn’t the only order of business this weekend, as Grimshaw celebrated their 54th year of putting on the full-spectrum of professional rodeo events. Billy Richards of Crossfield, Alta. placed first in the saddle bronc riding event out at Grimshaw when Kesler Championship Rodeo’s Paper Clip locked in a 76.5 for $1,104. In the bareback, Alan Dacyk, from Worsley, Alta., spurred out on 82 on Kesler Rodeo’s Country Wages for earnings of $1,42.

At the timed event end of the arena, Clayton Moore of Pouce Coupe, BC claimed the tie-down roping in 8.4 seconds for $1,276, while Dallas Frank won the steer wrestling in 3.9 seconds, worth $1,535 to the Stony Plain, Alta. cowboy.

In the ladies barrel racing, Rana Koopmans of Lethbridge, Alta. sped through the cloverleaf pattern in 17.71 seconds, worth $1,115. Tyrell Gordon (Ponoka, Alta.) and Kolton Schmidt (Barrhead, Alta.) tied up first place in the team roping with a 4.0 run. They share $1,745 for the win.

Coleman Watt won the novice saddle bronc with his 73.5-point ride, worth $349, while Cole Goodine placed first in the novice bareback with a 77. Goodine adds $303 to his season earnings.
