Mote facing possible surgery on his neck

Three-time and reigning World Champion Bareback Rider Bobby Mote will seek medical consultations this week in Dallas and Salt Lake for treatment of foraminal stenosis (narrowing of the spinal cord opening) and may opt for surgery on his neck.

Mote won the first two rounds of the April 7-10 Dodge National Circuit Finals Rodeo in Pocatello, Idaho, before the acute whiplash he suffered riding Kesler Championship Rodeo’s Spanish Pair in the semifinals pinched nerves in his neck, producing numbness in his arms, loss of control and a buck-off.

“The MRI was very positive,” said Dr. Pepper Murray, of the Justin Sportsmedicine Team. “We feel like this can be resolved with surgery by widening the spinal cord channel just enough so that he isn’t so prone to these incidents with pinched nerves
