The Cowboys weren’t totally gracious hosts during their home rodeo in the Ag Arena of the Burton Coliseum complex October 21-23.  The men’s team amassed 295 points and staked claim on another championship in as many weeks. The win highlighted the occasion of the college’s celebration of its fiftieth anniversary of  National Intercollegiate Rodeo Association competition.

Junior Ryan Stutes, Sulphur , anchored the team effort with an outstanding 82 point ride on his second horse for his third consecutive victory in bareback riding during the 2004-05 season.  Senior Aaron Reeves of Reeves nailed down his second steer wrestling championship in a row with a stellar aggregate score of 9.0 seconds on two steers.  Cody Smith, a junior from Palmer, Texas, finished second in saddle bronc riding for the Cowboys, while his fellow Texan, senior Lee Cherry of Buna, placed fourth in bareback riding.  Freshman Mateo Martin, Sulphur , came in fourth in steer wrestling, and fellow townsman Ross Beasley, a sophomore, lassoed a fourth in tie down roping.

After three rodeos McNeese holds the lead in the men’s team standings among the fourteen-school Southern Region of the NIRA.  The Cowboys will be on the road November 4-6 competing in the season’s fourth rodeo slated for Sam Houston State University in Huntsville , Texas .
